Hi guys!
This is Alexa, or Jihong as my Korean friends call me, writing from Saigon Vietnam. I'm a little late writing my first post since it's been almost a week since arriving in Saigon but I'll catch up I promise.
Anyway I'm writing from Saigon because I'm on a program called Duke Engage in Vietnam with 11 other Duke students. We are in Vietnam for 8 weeks, spending around 10 days in Saigon and then moving to a rural area called Quang Tri in central Vietnam. In Quang Tri we help build bathrooms and teach English to middle and high school students there. As of now, we are just adjusting to Vietnam, learning the language, walking around the city, learning about the history, eating good food and coffee, etc.
This is going to be a short post as my Vietnamese class is coming up very soon, but I wanted to let my family and friends know that I am having a good time in Vietnam. It's very different from home yet somewhat familiar, probably due to the K-pop playing in cafes and Korean franchise stores that I see on the streets (I'll explain more on my next blog post).
So thanks for reading and hopefully my next blog post will be within a couple of days!
