When spending so much time together, you're bound to personalize your group vocabulary. Sometimes we may even use it when blogging...so here is a guide for anyone who may be lost when reading our blog. A DukeEngage Vietnam 2016 Urban Dictionary, if you will. Cups- Nope, not the things you drink from. Cups is an acronym useful in nearly any situation: Can uplease stop. Created by Nikila Vasudevan, the word has caught on swiftly as a quick way to stop anyone or anything. Ex. The boys sing "Jingle Bells" when crossing the street. "Cups," says everyone else, and they then stop singing (or not)
Lit- The young and hip may know this, but it means alive, fun, a good time. It can also mean literally lit (like a light). Popularized by Kayla Thompson. Ex. Yo the AO Show was LIT!
Dim- The alternative to lit, i.e. boring, turned down, not fun. Ex. Austin, stop being so dim and reading your book.
Cooked, Roasted, Skewered, Sauteed- Various ways of referring to teasing someone or beating someone at a card game. The kitchen terminology can be extended to less severe forms such as but not limited to: minced, diced, broiled, etc. Ex. Harry, I just skewered you at Hearts!
'Arry- Harry C. Guo (British accent required) Ex. 'Arry must not go back to Hogwarts!
"That's a you problem"- Something Jared says way too much, and basically is a sufficient response to anyone's complaints. See: better way of saying "personal problem." Ex. *Kayla complains about bug bites* Kayla, stop- that's such a you problem.
HIEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNN - Our loveable and adorable program assistant Ex. Thanks for the stipend, HIEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNN!
Hitting the academic- A phrase Jason made up which supposedly means to hit the books, and which he taught to our roommates. But a better meaning for it would mean physically hitting a professor Ex. *Jared starts making up historical facts* Oh man, it's time to hit the academic UPDATE: Jason never said "hit the academics". His roommate probably misheard him saying "hit the books"... - Jason
