DukeEngage Vietnam 2016 12 college students embark on the journey of a lifetime
Since its advent in 2009, the DukeEngage in Vietnam program has helped to improve the quality of life in the rural Quang Tri province of Central Vietnam. Hit especially hard during the war, Central Vietnam is an area that has some of the highest need in the country, lacking adequate infrastructure and sanitation in schools and homes. The goal of DukeEngage in Vietnam is to perpetuate a consistent stream of students who improve the language skills of local high school students through ESL teachings and ameliorate some of the poor living and working conditions in the village through government-suggested construction projects. All the while, Duke students living in the town promote cross-cultural understanding and exchange with Vietnamese roommates from Hue University and community members.
This website serves to document our experiences as we endeavor to live with, work with, and learn from the Vietnamese in the summer of 2016. We hope you enjoy our adventures! Thank you for visiting and stay tuned for more! What is the magic number?
